The
Internet is a vast system. You could say that nearly everything can be
found there. With just a few clicks you could download almost all the
digital content you can possibly imagine with no cost at all. That truly
sounds tempting, but is it the right thing to do?
I
suppose the majority of people have downloaded something from the
Internet and could probably even admit to that. People don’t see what’s
wrong with downloading. They just think that they get free stuff and
everybody’s happy. But it’s not that kind of win-win situation. People
who have made the content lose because they aren’t getting any money if
the content is downloaded from the Internet instead of purchased from
stores. But I don’t think that is the main reason why some people
wouldn’t download or at least would be discreet about it. Downloading
from the Internet is illegal and that’s why they won’t do it.
What I think is weird is the authorities’ reaction to all this. They are well aware about this happening but it seems that they don’t really do much about it. However, they have bigger things to worry, off course.
I admit that I am one of those people who download stuff from the internet. Music, TV shows and movies, I have downloaded all of them and I have never felt bad about it. It has just become a normal part of my life. I think it’s great that I can just download a movie with no cost at all. Because let’s face it, we would all watch less movies and listen to less music if we had to pay for all of it.
ReplyDeleteOne reason that I like to download TV shows, is that here in Finland we don’t have as much different shows to watch. Or then the Finnish TV is a few seasons behind the American time. For example, I currently download TV shows like Supernatural and Community. I know Supernatural is aired in Finland but it is a few seasons behind, so I choose to download it. I also download music because it is so much easier than buying a cd. And if you hear a good song and you want to listen to it, you don’t have to buy the whole cd for that.
I admit that in some level downloading stuff for free is wrong, but it is so normal these days that not a lot of people care about it anymore.
I have to also admit that it is a guilty pleasure of mine to watch TV shows and to listen to music from the internet without paying a single cent. It would be nice to be able not to do so, but I don't think very many people could actually afford it. One thing that I like to do is to buy dvds for those shows that I really deem to be worth my money, and use internet just as a way to sample them. Thus I can support at least the makers of my favourite shows, although this method still isn't all that legal.
ReplyDeleteYep, I can admit I'm doing that, too. It's just so easy to find things on the Internet whenever you want. But at least I don't download every single thing from the Internet, mostly just some songs I find good but don't want to own the whole album. And if I want the whole album, I buy it. I also prefer to buy all my favorite movies 'cause then I can watch them as many times as I want, whenever I want and also the quality of DVDs and Blu-rays is much better than those online movies.
ReplyDeleteSo, I don't really think I'm doing so huge crime while downloading some songs but, of course, I know it's illegal.
