Has it ever crossed your mind that when you throw something to the ground, that that something may end up in an animal’s
mouth?
When we
throw trash to the ground it can move surprisingly far from the spot where it
was left. Wind, water, and other natural forces move the litter and eventually
it might end up in an ocean, for example. Right now, there is a huge amount of
plastic and trash floating in the Pacific Ocean. Ocean currents have gathered the
debris and created a floating of it. This floating is called the Great Pacific
garbage path, and it has also been referred to as world’s largest refuse dump.
Plastic
debris is problematic because it just breaks into smaller and smaller pieces
along time. This causes trouble for turtles and water birds, for example,
because they may even eat these little pieces of plastic when trying to find
food. Plastic, broken into tiny, little pieces, accumulates in animals that
filter their food from water, causing them diverse problems. In the worst case,
a water bird’s stomach can be full of plastic debris.
This debris
problem reminds me of the time when we were babies; we didn’t know what was
edible and what wasn’t, and our parents would always try to make sure there
were no little things on the floor that we could have put in our mouths and
choked. The situation with animals is quite the same. Now we are the parents
that are supposed to keep the floor clear of all those dangerous little things
that the babies could try to eat; let’s stop littering and protect the nature
and animals. So, next time
when you’re about to throw something to the ground, stop for a moment, and
think. Is it really worth harming the nature and animals, or could you be
responsible, and find a trashcan? I know what I’d do.

I remember when I saw a video about those birds having their stomachs full of litter. It really, really shocked me.
ReplyDeleteThe things you said are totally true. We should take the responsibility for our own actions and for the things those actions cause. Humans do have "the power" in this world but I seriously think they are misusing it; they should mind the nature and animals around them. Perhaps in the future humans will be wiser and do things right (:
Very important topic! And great text! Yes, you are right, littering is very big problem and our oceans are like huge rubbish bins. I am sad because our seas and sea animals are dying. And why? Well, because people. We don't have the right to destroy oceans. Everybody should think their ways to live and make the difference. We are the future. We have a chance. Now, not tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent topic. You are absolutely right. And the picture in the end is very shocking. It speaks to me in a way, because I have a dog and it would be awful if he ate something like that. When I take him for a walk I have to observe him 24/7 because of all the litter.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually one of the stupidest things you could imagine, littering. Why to throw them to the ground, just why? It doesn't make any sense. And it's definitely not cool and most definitely, not ok.
Awesome topic! I agree with you, because littering is so stupid and that hurts many things in nature for example birds or trees. Nowadays kids are so stupid that they throw everything to the nature but also older ones do this too..
ReplyDeleteI guess that a few people think what that little litter can do to environment or to animals.
ReplyDeleteBefore the film that we saw in our lesson, I never thought that animals might eat the rubbish.
It´s an awful way to treat animal plus environment looks ugly when there are rubbish everywhere.
